The extremely talented Pop artist Donell Jones has released him latest CD on the LaFace recording label, entitled Journey Of A Gemini.
It’s a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I’m more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply isn’t a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.
Journey Of A Gemini has a pleasantly varied, mix of 15 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly gifted artist. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.
Overall Journey Of A Gemini is outstanding from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Pop fan. Really spectacular from beginning to end.
While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 2 – Better Start Talking, track 6 – Potrait Of A Woman, and track 15 – I’m Gonna Be.
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Special Girl. What a nice track!

Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone
$7.61 Ennio Morricone is well-known to moviegoers. His soundtracks for The Mission, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in America, Cinema Paradiso, and others are invariably warmly melodic and superbly suited to the films they grace. They not only add atmosphere; they help tell the story. For this CD Morricone has created new orchestrations for many of his scores, adding a solo cello part ... |

Out Of Africa: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack
$6.87 The great irony of John Barry's Academy Award-winning score for Out of Africa (which also took the Oscar as Best Picture) is that it almost never was; director Sydney Pollack had originally envisioned the film with native African music, going as far as laying the indigenous score down as he was editing. But the weight of John Barry's arguments--not to mention his considerable track record and comp... |

Appalachian Journey
$5.10 With the help of some friends (James Taylor and Alison Krauss lend some vocal support), the trio of Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O'Connor have created yet another fascinating hybrid of chamber music and bluegrass. This follow-up to 1996's Appalachia Waltz is filled with highly lyrical string passages, a homage or two to Copland, and plenty of tracks where Meyer's bass vamps with the best of the... |

Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues - Piano Blues
$9.75 It may have been underrated when first broadcast on PBS on consecutive nights in the fall of '03, but executive producer Martin Scorsese's homage to the blues is a truly significant, if imperfect, achievement. "Musical journey" is an apt description, as Scorsese and the six other directors responsible for the seven approximately 90-minute films follow the blues--the foundation of jazz, soul, R&B, ... |
